Loading ramp paving systems

Ramps and dock approaches take more punishment than anything else on a site. We build them deeper and bind the edges properly.

What it is

A loading ramp carries fully laden trucks that are braking, turning and often stationary in the same spot for long periods. That combination of load and heat is what pushes a standard build-up out of shape.

We increase the depth through the ramp and the approach, use a mix specified for the load rather than the general site mix, and detail the edges so they do not crumble where trailer wheels run over them.

Where the ramp meets a dock or a concrete apron, the joint gets sealed properly — that transition is where water gets in and where most ramps start to fail.

Where ramps fail

Standing load

Trailers parked in one spot in summer heat push a standard surface out of shape.

Edge breakup

Unsupported edges crumble under trailer wheels. They need building and binding.

The joint

Where asphalt meets concrete is where water gets in. It gets sealed, not just butted up.
